When having sex with someone
When is the right time to have sex in a relationship?
According to a survey conducted by yougov.com, there is no clear consensus among Americans on how to answer the old question: how long do you have to wait before having sex? They found that among those who are married or have a serious relationship, 15% say they had sex within a week of starting the relationship; 19% say they have had sex after dating their partner for more than a week, but less than a month; and 21% said they had waited between one and three months.
The article is very extensive and includes data on different milestones that people think should be achieved before having sex and when to say “I love you”, but what the article does not offer is a real clarity. The difference between 15 and 21 percent is not really enough to say for sure whether waiting a week or a month has to do or not with the longevity of your relationship.
As expert matchmakers, we have some opinions / thoughts / tips
For some background, there are 6 women in our One on One Matchmaking office. Everyone is married except Carey who is separated. You can think of our tips in 2 ways.
- They’re married, so they obviously did well!
- They’re married, they’re not single, they probably forget how it is!
We work with single clients throughout the day, from 23 to 83 years old. Therefore, we are definitely the people in your life who will give you expert opinions. For this blog, all Matchmakers gave their separate opinion on when you should have sex with someone.
This is what the experts said:
Sarah Kathryn: “3 months or so after ‘exclusive talk'”
Anna: “I think that’s different for everyone. I’d like to know that I’m the only one who’s slept with him before.”
Jennifer: “At least 5 dates and after they’ve determined they’re in a compromised monogamous relationship.”
Carey: After the conversation about exclusivity, whether it’s 3 dates or 10, I wouldn’t do it until you knew it was the only one. “
Kyle: “That’s hard. I think it’s definitely a case-by-case scenario. If you and your date have a strong physical attraction, sex will probably happen very quickly, unfortunately, sometimes, once that happens, it’s possible that people you don’t know each other emotionally and someone might get hurt. At least after 3 dates! “
Emily: “My answer is three months after meeting them. I think that after 90 days of spending quality time with someone, you have a basic understanding of who the core is. You’ve probably achieved their morals and values, and yes You’ve been through this sexless time, you definitely like it! “
If you’re looking for advice or help on this topic, I think we’ve definitely come to the conclusion that you MUST have an “exclusive talk” before you go to bed with someone. Good luck! Anything if this guy / girl doesn’t work, give us a call! 404-888-1118. www.1on1matchmaking.com
